What Is a Super Top-Up?
BimaParichay Awareness Team · 6 August 2026 · 4 min read
A super top-up is additional cover that starts after a chosen deductible is crossed — usually a lower-cost way to raise total protection.
The basic mechanism
You choose a deductible — say ₹5 lakh. The super top-up responds to eligible expenses above that deductible, up to its own sum insured, in line with the policy terms.
Super top-up vs regular top-up
A regular top-up applies the deductible to each individual hospitalisation. A super top-up applies it to the total eligible expenses in the policy year, which is generally more useful when there is more than one claim.
Things to verify
- Whether the deductible matches your existing base sum insured.
- Waiting periods on the super top-up — they apply to the new policy on its own terms.
- Room rent, co-payment and exclusions in the top-up wording.
Who it may suit
Families that already have base cover and want a higher overall limit without a proportionate premium increase. Suitability depends on your existing policy and health profile.
