Renewal
7 Things to Check Before Renewing Your Health Insurance
BimaParichay Awareness Team · 30 July 2026 · 5 min read
Renewal is the one predictable moment each year when you can fix gaps. Ten minutes with your policy document is usually enough.
The checklist
- Sum insured — does it still reflect what treatment costs in your city?
- Room rent and ICU conditions — is there a cap, and how would it affect a claim?
- Co-payment — do you pay a fixed share of every claim?
- Members covered — has anyone been added or missed?
- Waiting periods and exclusions — which ones are still running?
- Continuity — is the premium paid before the due date so cover stays unbroken?
- Contact details — are your mobile number and email current with the insurer?
Renew on time, always
A lapse can affect continuity benefits and restart waiting periods. Most insurers offer a grace period, but cover during that gap is not guaranteed. Treat the due date as firm.
Changing something at renewal
Renewal is also when you can consider increasing the sum insured or adding a super top-up. Any change is subject to the insurer's underwriting and product terms.
